Talvisia hetkiä / Winter moments

On ollut sekä 0 °C -keliä että erittäin kylmää (-18 °C). Ja lunta satanut edelleen. 

There have been both 0 °C weather and very cold weather (-18 °C). And it has snowed a lot. 

Väriläiskä.

Color in the middle of the white.

Kuin joulukuuset valkoisessa kääreessä.

Like Christmas trees wrapped in white.

Mattotamppausteline on saanut kivat muhkurat.

A rack where carpets are cleaned by "beating". I don't know if it's common in the world, 

but almost every yard in Finland has this stand, a little different, but the purpose is the same.

There are nice snowballs in it.

Bembölen Kahvitupa

 

Lähellä on mainio, vanha Kahvitupa. Siellä poikkesin, kun pitää autoa ajatuttaa pakkasella.

Meillä on huippupakkaset,  -18... -22 C. Ja merituuli saa pakkasen tuntumaan vielä kylmemmältä. 

There is an excellent, old Lunch place nearby. 

That's where I went when I have to start the car in freezing weather and drive a while.

We have extremely cold temperatures, -18...-22 C.

And when the sea breeze blows, it makes the air feel much more colder.

Lunta ja pakkasta / Snow and freezing

 

Joulunpyhinä ei tehty töitä.

No work was done during Christmas holidays.

On tullut lunta ja on pakkasta, tänään -17 °C.

It has snowed and it is freezing, today -17 °C.

Hyvää uutta vuotta 2024 / Happy New Year

 

Tänään paistoi aurinko, se ihmeellinen keltainen pallo. Tuntuu, että on ollut monta viikkoa, ettemme ole sitä nähneet. Hyvin matalalla se vielä on ja kestää vain muutamia tunteja, ehkä 6 tuntia ja sitten tulee taas pimeys. Mutta auringon hintana on kylmyys, tänäänkin kävelin puolitoista tuntia -13 C pakkasessa ja näpit jäätyi, kun otin muutaman kuvan. On niin kaunista, sillä eilen satoi lunta ja se jäi puiden oksille.

The sun was shining today, that wonderful yellow ball. It feels like we haven't seen it in weeks. It's still very low and lasts only a few hours, maybe 6 hours and then it's dark again. But the price of the sun is the cold, even today I walked for an hour and a half in -13 C freezing temperatures and my fingers froze when I took a few pictures. The natur is so beautiful, because yesterday it snowed and it stayed on the branches of the trees.

Unohtunut vene / The forgotten boat

Joka talvi joku vene on unohtunut jäihin. 

Miten kukaan voi unohtaa veneen... ellei sitten ole tullut sairaustapaus tai kuolema.

Every winter someone's boat is forgotten in the ice. 

How can anyone forget the boat... unless there has been a case of illness or death.

Saa etsimällä etsiä väriä muuten niin valkoisessa maisemassa.

By searching, you can look for color in an otherwise so white landscape.

 

Kampin jouluvalot / Christmas lights

Helsingissä ollessani kiertelin pitkästä aikaa Kampissa. Se on niin suuri, että melkein alkoi ahdistaa, etenkin, kun on paksut talvivaatteet päällä. En ostanut mitään, en jaksanut kierrellä kaupoissa.

Mutta siellä oli tosi kauniit jouluvalot.

When I was in Helsinki, I was also in Kamp for a long time. It's such a big shopping paradise as well as a transport hub (train, buses and metro) that it almost started to feel overwhelming, especially when you're wearing thick winter clothes. I didn't go to the shops and I didn't buy anything. But there were very beautiful Christmas lights.

Luonto mustavalkoisena / Black and white views

 

Rantakivet sai kivan päällysteen.

The beach stones got a nice coating.

Lunta tulvillaan / Full of snow

 

Lunta on satanut nyt pari päivää lähes putkeen, välillä enempi, välillä vähempi. Ja sataa edelleen.

Se etu lumentulolla on, ettei silloin ole kovia pakkasia, nytkin siinä jotain -5 C ... -7 C.

It has been snowing for a couple of days almost continuously, sometimes more, sometimes less. 

And it's still snowing. 

The advantage of the snowfall is that there are no severe frosts then, even now it's only about -5 C ... -7 C.

Lumi tuli tänä vuonna aikaisin etelä-Suomeen.

Snow came early this year to southern Finland.

Talomies (huoltoyhtiö) ei ole pitänyt kiirettä.

The caretaker (maintenance company) has not been in a hurry.

Penkki tarjoaa istumismukavuutta pehmusten kera.

The bench offers seating comfort with padding.

Tuomaan markkinoilla / In Christmas market

 

Kävin Helsingissä Tuomaan Markkinoilla. Oli tosi kylmä ja tuulinen päivä, joten syötiin vain kovasti mainostettu riisipuuro (oli hyvää) glögin kera ja tehtiin pikapika kierros.

We went to the Christmas market in Helsinki. It was a really cold and windy day, so we only ate the rice porridge with glögi and made a quick tour.

Musta näyttäis olevan edelleen vaatteiden pääväri.

It seems that black is still the main color of clothes.

Jäällä / On the ice

 

Pakkaset on tehnyt jään jo sen verran paksuksi, että uskalsin mennä sinne kävelemään.

The frost has already made the ice so thick that I dared to go there for a walk.

En ollut ainoa. Tämä koira riemuitsi lumessa temmeltäessä.

I wasn't the only one there. This dog had a great time frolicking in the snow.

Retkiluistelijat olivat tehneet taidokkaita jälkiä jäähän.

The excursion skaters had made elaborate tracks in the ice.

Talviuintipaikka / Winter swimming place

 

Jos olisi rohkeutta, kävisin avantouinnilla. Kylmä vesihän vie pois kaiken kolotuksen ja vaivan.

Mutta olen arka, ja pidän omat kolotukset itsellä edelleenkin....

If I had the guts, I'd go hole in the ice swimming. After all, cold water removes all pain and discomfort.

But I'm timid and I keep all my pain to myself....

Ainakin toinen menee uimaan. En jäänyt katselemaan. Lämpötila -10 C.

At least the other one goes swimming. I didn't stay to watch. Temperature -10 C
