Lavatanssit / Summer dances

 

Eilen illalla juhannuksen aatonaaton tanssit Honkamajalla Espoossa. 

On aikaa kun viimeksi kävin tanssimassa. Ihmettelen nyt miksi näin on, sillä tanssiminen on hauskaa.

Tämä auto ei ole minun .. 

Last evening it was dancing in Espoo (on the Midsummer's eve).

It's been a while since I last danced. I should go more often, because Dancing is fun.

Koskakohan olen nähnyt tanssittavan letkajenkkaa. Mutta oli kiva katsoa kun kaikki olivat mukana. 

Itse en mennyt mukaan, olisin kuollut siinä hyppimisessä.. :)

It's a long time since when have I seen a "letkajenkka" (line jenkka). But it was nice to watch when everyone was in the line. I didn't go along myself, I would have died jumping.. :)

Juhannusyönä Helsingissä / Midsummer night in Helsinki

 

Juhannustanssit Kauppatorilla. / Midsummer dance.

Ajelin juhannusyönä Helsinkiin, auto parkkiin kadunvarteen ja hetki kävelyä keskustasta Kauppatorille. Itselle oli hämmästys, kuinka paljon nuoria aikuisia oli liikkeellä, istuivat Espan puistossa ja lukemattomissa terasseilla, tai ajelivat sähköpolkulaudoilla. Eivät he enää mene mummon mökille maalle. Niinkuin minun nuoruudessa, Helsinki oli silloin lähes autio juhannuksena.

I drove to Helsinki on Midsummer night, put the car on park on the street and took a short walk from the center to the Market Square. I was amazed at how many young adults were on the move, sitting in Esplanade park and countless terraces, or riding Electric kkckboards. They no longer go to Grandma's cottage on country side. As in my youth, Helsinki was almost deserted at Midsummer.

Juhannus 2 - Sillalla / On the bridge

Juhannusaattoiltana auringon laskun aikaan eksyttiin Lauttasaaren sillalle, vahingossa oikeaan aikaan, sillä en tiennyt, että sillan läppä nostetaan Seurasaaren kokon katselijoille. Turistiveneet alittaa sillan mennen tullen. Läpän ylhäälläoloaika kesti 15 minuuttia.Tuo toinen silta, joka yllä näkyy, on Länsiväylää.

Jonkin verran oli liikkeellä autoja, koskapa sillan läpän avaaminen aiheutti myös pienoisen jonon :). 

In Seurasaari (island of front of Helsinki) there is a large Midsummer festivities and a huge bonfire. Boat owners are driving unto the island to look at the bonfire, and tourist boats are carrying tourists there. The boats must be driven under two bridges, and the other, where I'm standing, is rather shallow that the boats cannot fit under the bridge. Therefore, the flap is raised. Coincidentally, we were on the bridge at the right time. Size hustle lasted 15 minutes, whereby all the tourist boats must travel at the same time (I took these photos approx 22.30-22.45).

Juhannus 1 - Kokko / Bonfire

Oli täysin sateeton juhannusatto ja aurinkokin näkyi - mikä oli ihme, kun muistaa kuinka torstaina satoi.
Lähdettiin etsimään kokkoa, ja sellaisen jämät löytyi Lauttasaaresta. Taisi olla alkujaan aika iso kokko, kun tällainen nuotio oli jäljellä klo n. 23.30.

It was rainless Midsummer's Eve and we had also a little bit sun - which was a miracle when you remember how it rained on Thursday.
In Midsummer evening Finns ignite bonfire. We went to look for it and we saw one, which was almost completely burnt down.
It was quite bright night though the time was already approx. 23.30. The sun has just fallen.

Autioituva Helsinki / Deserted Helsinki.

Helsinki hiljenee, väki siirtyy maalle juhannuksen viettoon

(ehkä sateellakin taisi olla osansa autioitumiseen..:)

 Helsinki becomes silent, the people moves to the country to celebrate Midsummer.

(in the rain would be also the cause of the depopulation .. :)

Mutta ei hätää, turistit tulee ja täyttää kaupungin.

But no problem, tourists will fill the city…

Finland is "closed" at this Midsummer weekend.
Almost everybody is in countryside 
with the midnight sun (except now it's cloudy), 
sauna by the lake, bonfires, grill sausages. etc.

Midsummer (on next weekend) is the white night and midnight sun.  The sun does not set at all.
In Midsummer almost everybody go to the summer cottage on the lake or on the sea. The cities are near empty.
Bonfire ('kokko' in finnish), sauna, grill and dances. (... also mosquitos ...) belongs to The Finnish Midsummer night  
People do all kind of spells and charms. Most of them are linked to ones love life.
