Taas Helsingissä / In Helsinki again

 

Oli taas asiaa Helsinkiin. Sinne ei juuri tule mentyä, jollei ole asiaa.

I had to go to Helsinki again. I don't really go there unless there is a reason.

Kaupunki on tosi hiljainen keskellä päivää.

The city is very quiet in the middle of the day.

Skuuteilla on oma parkkiruutu.

Electric scooters have their own parking space.

Ensin oli ihan kiva ilma kävellä, mutta puolessa välissä kotimatkaa alkoi hiljalleen satelemaan. Minulla on aina huono tuuri sään suhteen. Monta päivää on ollut aurinkoista ja lämmintä, mutta kun on pakko mennä Helsinkiin ja ajattelen kävellä siellä, niin silloin tietenkin sataa.

At first, the weather was nice to walk, but half way home it started to rain. I always have bad luck with the weather. It has been sunny and warm for many days, but when I have to go to Helsinki and I think about walking there, of course it rains.

Forumin tavarataloon sisään, ja sieltä alikulkukäytävää pitkin metroasemalle. Sain kulkea kuivin jaloin.

I went inside the Forum department store, and from there along the underpass to the metro station. 

I was able to walk with dry feet.

Kohti kotia. Kampin metron liukuportaat. 

Asema on vanha, ja siis aivan erinäköinen kuin meidän uusi Länsimetro.

The station is old, and thus looks completely different from our new West metro. 

hieman punaista / A litlle bit red

 

Näin syksyllä silmä etsii punaista väriä. 

Meillä ei vielä ole kovin paljon ruskaa, vaikka muutamat puut jo punertaa.

Now in autumn, the eye is looking for the red color.

We don't have much fall yet though a few trees are already turning red.

Putkiremppa / The pipe renovation

Meidän taloyhtiössä alettiin tehdä linjasaneerausta eli putkiremppaa elokuun alussa. Piha on myllerretty täysin, kulkukieltoja on koko pihan alueella. Asunnoissa koko kylpyhuone menee uusiksi ja osin keittiö. Koko putkiremppa on hirveän kallis.

Ensimmäiset asukkaat ovat jo joutuneet jättämään kotinsa noin kolmeksi kuukaudeksi. Itse asun talon loppupäässä, joten joudun poistumaan asunnosta vasta ensi vuoden maaliskuun puolessa välissä. Vielä on auki minne menen silloin asumaan tilapäisesti.

In our housing company, the pipe renovation started at the beginning of August. Now the yard is completely messed up, there are prohibitions in the entire area of the yard. In the apartments, the entire bathroom will be renewed, and some of the kitchen. This is a very expensive renovation. 

The pipes of the entire house will be renewed throughout, as well as some of the electrical wiring. 

You can't live in the apartments, so one line at a time, i.e. the residents of floors 1-5 leave in turn.

The first residents have already had to leave their homes for about three months. 

I live at the end of the house myself, so I don't have to leave the apartment until mid-March next year. It's still open where I'm going to live temporarily then.

Neljä valkoista / Four white ones

Kolme autoa ja yksi rättäri. / Three cars and one 2CV.

Meillä oli 1970-1980 -luvuilla yhteensä neljä rättäriä, mutta sitten muutettiin vajaa kahdeksi vuodeksi Saksaan ja piti saada "oikea" auto. Nykyisin kun joskus harvoin näen rättärin, se sykähdyttää ja tuo ihanat muistot mieleen. Eli ei ole vaikea arvata, mikä on suosikkiautoni noista neljästä.

We had a total of four 2CV in the 1970-1980, but then we moved to Germany for about two years and had to get a "real" car. Nowadays, when I rarely see a 2CV, it sensitizes me and brings back great wonderful memories. So it is not difficult to guess which is my favorite car out of these four ones.

Tänään on parempi päivä. Mustelmat, jotka sain kaatumisesta, ovat haalistumassa, 

ja polvikin on paranemaan päin. Tosin se ei taida vielä kestää tanssimista.

Today is a better day. The bruises I got from the fall are fading and the knee is on the mend. 

Although, I don't think it can stand dancing yet.

Onnettomuus rantaraitilla / Accident on the beach road

Viime viikolla, juuri flunssasta toipuneena (kuka hullu saa kesällä flunssan?), olin kävelemässä rantatietä, kun kompastuin laatan reunaan. Kaaduin pitkälleni eteenpäin, loukaten ensin polven ja seuraavaksi tömähti leuka ja silmäkulma. Pieni haava tuli, mutta verta sitäkin enemmän. 

Onneksi terveyskeskukseen oli vain kävelymatka, jonne minut saattoi ystävällinen tuntematon nainen. Siellä haava liimattiin, ja muutenkin tutkittiin, ettei mitään luita ole murtunut (ei ollut). 

Mutta seuraavana päivänä minua tuijotti peilistä iso musta silmä ja leuassakin koko leuan peittävä iso mustelma. Tätä kärsin nyt muutaman viikon. Onneksi aurinko paistaa, niin voin ulkona pitää aurinkolaseja. Ainoa harmitus on polvi, joka on edelleen kipeä. Mutta ehkä sekin vielä paranee, onneksi voin kuitenkin kävellä sillä.

Tässä kohtaa kaaduin. / This is where I fell.

Last week, having just recovered from a cold (who the hell gets a cold in the summer?), I was walking along the boardwalk when I tripped over the edge of a boulder. I fell forward, first injuring my knee and then my chin and the corner of my eye. There was a small wound, but even more blood. 

Fortunately, the health center was only a short walk away, where I was accompanied by a friendly unknown woman. There the wound was taped and examined to make sure no bones were broken (there weren't).

But the next day a big black eye was staring at me in the mirror and a big bruise covered my entire chin. I've been suffering from this for almost a week now. Fortunately, the sun is shining, so I can wear sunglasses outside. The only annoying thing is the knee, which is still sore. But maybe that will get better too, luckily I can walk.

Autumn is coming little by little and the rowan berries turn red.

Lukutauko / Reading break

Ei ole enää tavallinen näky kirjoja luettavan ulkona. Ja kun näin tämän lukevan pariskunnan, minun oli ihan pakko pysähtyä ja pyytää lupa kuvanotolle. He pitivät paussia pyöräilystä ja lukevat aina tilaisuuden tullen. Meille syntyi myös todella kiva ja mielenkiintoinen keskustelu kirjoista ja elämästä yleensä.

It's not any more a common sight to see books being read outdoors. And when I saw this couple sitting in a bench and reading I had to stop and ask permission to take a photo. They took a break from cycling and read every chance they get. We also had a very nice and interesting discussion about books and life in general.
