Talvi tuli sittenkin / Winter came anyway

 

Parissa päivässä saimme Etelä-Suomeenkin lumipeitteen ja pakkasta (-5 °C... -10°C). 

Päivä on edelleen lyhyt, mutta lumi tekee siitä valoisemman.

In a couple of days, we got snow cover and frost in Southern Finland too (-5 °C... -10°C). 

The day is still short, but the snow makes it brighter.

Lumi tuli, lumi suli / The snow came and went.

Se oli yhden päivän "ensi lumi". Vesisateen jälkeen lumesta ei ole tietoakaan.

The "first snow" only lasted a day. There is no sign of snow after the rain.

Saatiin pikkasen lunta mekin. Aurinko paistoi, niin ei tuntunut kylmältä (-1 C)

We got a little snow too. The sun was shining, so it didn't feel so cold (-1 C)

Saimme ensi lumen Etelä-Suomeen. Todella "koiran ilma", tuulee ja tuiskuaa.

We got the first snow in Southern Finland. It is really "dog weather", windy and gusty.

We correctly call rainy and/or windy weather "dog weather"

Lämpötila on jotain 4-5 °C, joten ei tämä lumi varmaan kauan pysy maassa.

The temperature is something like 4-5 °C, so this snow will not stay on the ground for long, I think.

Ajotiet on tällaista moskaa.

The driveways are this kind of slush.

Jotain ne tekevät ulostuloaukon kohdalla. Kiva sää työskennellä.

They are doing something at the exit. Nice weather for working.

Joko talvi saapui? / Either winter arrived?

Saatiin talvi ja lunta. Ja lisää lunta on luvassa.

Pakkasta on n. -2 C, mutta esim Lapissa on ollut jo -30 C.

We got winter and snow. And more snow is on the way.

The frost in South-Finland (where I live) is about -2 C, but for example in Lapland (Northern Finland) it has already been -30 C.  I think it would be terrible, but people who live in the north are probably used to the cold.

Putkirempan aiheuttama sekasotku kadulla on saatu jo lähes siivottua. Tuntuu oudolta.

The mess on the street caused by the pipe repair has almost been cleaned up. Feels strange.

 

Ensi lumi / The first snow

 

Meille satoi aamulla aikaisin ensilumi. Piti ihan herättyä lähteä katsomaan tätä ihmettä ja kuvaamaan.

 Onneksi lumi suli pois, mutta tiedä sitten, milloin sataa seuraavan kerran - ja kunnon lunta. 

Tämä oli sellaista pientä ripsausta. Ja eihän ruskakaan ole vielä ohi.

We got the first snow early in the morning. When I woke up, I had to go look at this miracle and take some photos. Fortunately, the snow melted away quickly, but we'll see when a real winter comes. 

This snow was a bit too early, fall isn't over yet. This white substance can't really be called snow yet.

Minun taloni putkisaneerauksessa käytetyt työkoneet ovat nyt parkkeeranneet tälle vastapäiselle tyhjälle tontille. Ennen ne täytti jalkakäytävät ja veivät autoilta parkkitilaa.

The machines used in the plumbing renovation of my house are now parked on this empty lot opposite. 

Before, they filled the sidewalks and took parking space from cars.

Lunta! / Snow!

 

Saatiin lunta etelään. Eli ensilumi tuli rytinällä, ja lisää tulee (kunnes viikon kuluttua sulaa pois).

We got the first snow in southern Finland and more will come (until it melts away in a week).

Lumi kuuletko.. kielletty parkkeeraamasta.

Snow, can you hear.. forbidden to park.

Vaikka on vain –2 C, niin alkutalvi tuntuu aina todella kylmältä. 

Keväällä sama lämpötila on jo lähes hellettä.

Nyt on samat vaatteet päällä kuin talvella tosi pakkasella.

Even though it's only –2 C, early winter always feels very cold. 

In spring, the same temperature is already almost hot.

Now I'm wearing the same clothes as in winter when it's really cold.

Ensilumi / First snow

Yöllä satoi lunta, ja maa oli aamulla valkoinen. Tosin oli märkää ja liukasta. 

Ihan kiva oli saada esimakua talvesta, päiväkin oli valoisa. 

Vaikka en todellakaan toivo, että tämä lumi olisi pysyvä.

It was snowing at night and the ground was white in the morning. However, it was wet and slippery.

It was nice to get a taste of winter, the day was bright. Although I really don’t hope this snow is permanent. The temperature was something like +1 ... -0.5 ° C, not so cold.

Kesä lumen keskellä / Monday mural with snow

 

Tuli "toinen talvi", eli hieman märkää lunta. Piti lähteä lenkille, mutta se jäi vain korttelikierrokseen, sillä maa oli yllättävän liukas, tai sitten minulla vain oli väärät kengät = huono pito.

Tuossa aidan takana on Kivenlahden tuleva metroasema ja maalaus kuvaa Kivenlahtea.

There was a "second winter", that is, a little wet snow. I had to go for a walking, but it was only a block round because the ground was surprisingly slippery, or I just had the wrong shoes = poor grip.

Behind the fence there is the future metro station of Kivenlahti and the graffiti is about Kivenlahti.

Ensilumi / First snow

Lunta satoi aamulla pyryttäen, mutta ennen kuin viitsin lähteä ulos, oli se jo lähes sulannut.

It was snowing in the morning a lot, but before I bothered to go out, it had almost melted.

 

Ja taas ensilumi / And again the first snow.

Perjantai-iltana satoi lunta. Pakkohan oli käydä tuota ihmettä katsomassa,
kun niin monta päivää peräkkäin on satanut pelkkää vettä.

Friday evening was snowfall. 
I had to go out and see that miracle, when for many days it was raining only on the water.

Ja lauantaina sitä oli vielä jäljellä. Kumma kuinka muutama pakkasaste tuntuu tosi kylmältä näin alkutalvesta.

And on Saturday it was still left. Oddly enough, a few frosts feel really cold during the first snowfall.

Kahden päivän talvi / Two-Day Winter

Saatiin eteläänkin lunta, mutta talvi kesti vain kaksi päivää.

We got snow in southern Finland, (it's full winter in the north), but winter lasted only two days.

Jos ei sada lunta, niin sataa vettä. On harmaata.

If it doesn't snowing, it will rain water. It's gray weather.
