Purjelentäjä / Sail pilot

 

Kiva aurinkoinen päivä, pakkastakin vain -4 C. Tosin tuuli oli aika kova. 

Uutta luntakin saatiin, ja jäällä ei sitten ollut yhtään kunnon polkua.

A nice sunny day, only -4 C even though the wind was quite strong.

We also got new snow, and there were no proper paths on the ice.

Jäin seuraamaan kahta purjelentäjää, jotka kalliolla koittivat saada tuulen alleen.

I stayed behind to follow two sail pilots who were trying to catch the wind on the cliff.

Ja onnistuivat. / And they succeeded.

Ja laskeuduttuaan he kapusivat reippaasti takaisin ylös.

And after landing, they rose briskly back up.

Kalliolla / On the rock

Vaihteeksi kävelin kalliolla. Täällä mäet saattaa olla liukkaita, ainakin muhkuraisia. 

Siksi täällä on hankalampi kävellä.

For a change, I walked on the rock. The hills here can be slippery, or at least bumpy. 

That's why it's harder to walk here.

On ollut jo reilusti yli kuukausi yhtä soittoa kylmää eli pakkasta -10 ... -15 °C. 

Se haittaa valokuvien ottamista, sormet jäätyy.

Lisää lunta / More snow

 

Lunta tuli taas lisää, nyt saa hetken tarpoa lumessa, ennen kuin uudet polut muodostuu.

Pieni saari / Small island

 

Kivenlahden edustalla on pienen pieni saari, Pupusaari. Se on myös hyvä kohde jäälläkävelylle.

There is a small island called Pupusaari (Bunny Island) off the coast of Kivenlahti. 

It is also a good destination for ice walking.

Jäälyhdyt / Ice lanterns

 

Laiturin päähän oli joku / jotkut taiteilleet jäälyhtyjä.

Someone had placed ice lanterns at the end of the pier.

Jää kutsuu / Ice is calling

 

Pakkasta -17 °C, mutta jäällä on kiva kävellä. Nyt on myös aurattu jäätie kävelijöille, pyöräilijöille ja luistelijoille. Se on n. 1,5 km pituinen lenkki, josta on myös sivuteitä. 

It's freezing -17°C, but it's nice to walk on the ice. Now there is also a plowed ice road for walkers, cyclists and skaters. It's about 1.5 km long ring, with side roads. 

On kiva kävellä tasaisella, eikä tarvitse kahlata lumessa. Nyt ei ollut vielä liukasta.

It's nice to walk on flat ground and not have to wade through the snow. It wasn't slippery yet.

Tuli yllättäen vastaan yksipyöräinen.

Suddenly, a unicycle came across.

Jää elää, tällaisia "railoja" on siellä täällä.

Luminallet kalliolla. Vähän ovat jo kulahtaneet.

Snow teddy bears on a rock. They're a bit old already.

Tuli yllättäen upea, aurinkoinen päivä. Ja pakkastakin vain n. -10 °C. Eikä tuullut yhtään.

Today was a surprisingly beautiful day. The temperature was only ab. -10 °C. And there was no wind.

Jää kestää jo kävelemisen. Sen paksuus on n. 20 cm. Ja sinnehän oli pakko mennä.

The ice is already strong enough to walk on. It is about 20 cm thick. And I had to go there.

Helsingissä pika pikaa

 

Näin talvella Helsinki on tuulinen ja harmaa kaupunki. Tein taas pakollisen pikakäynnin keskustassa (yhdellä metrolipulla edestakaisin). Kuvassa on Baana, eli vanhaan rautatieuomaan tehty pyöräily- jalankulkuväylä (mutta enpä nähnyt yhtään pyöräilijää). Ei muita kuvia tällä kertaa, kun näpit jäätyy.

Helsinki is a windy and grey city in winter. Now I made the obligatory quick visit to the city centre (with one metro ticket round trip). In the picture there is Baana, a bicycle-pedestrian path built on an old railways (but I didn't see any cyclists). No other pictures this time as my fingers are freezing.
