Kirurgin sairaala / The surgeon's hospital, where the Ear Clinic is located.

Harvoin enää tulee Helsingin keskustaan menoa, mutta silloin kun tulee, olisi kiva siellä kävellä leikkien turistia. No eilen oli taas aamupäivällä käynti Korvapolilla Kirurgin sairaalassa Eirassa, mutta totta kai oli luvattu sademyrskyä. Kotimatkalla ehdin vielä valita kävelyn sateenvarjon kanssa sellaiset puoli tuntia Kamppiin ja metroon, ja pääsin onneksi alta pois ennen kun luvattu iso myrsky alkoi iltapäivästä. Helsingissä myrsky kaatoi puita ja  kadut lainehti vettä. Mutta silloin olin jo kotona, vaikka kyllä meilläkin satoi ihan kaatamalla.

I rarely go to the center of Helsinki anymore, but when you have to go, it would be nice to walk there playing tourist. Well, yesterday I had a morning visit to the Ear Outpatient Clinic at the Surgeon's Hospital in Eira, but of course a big rainstorm had been promised.

On my way home, however, I chose to walk with an umbrella for about half an hour to Kamppi and the subway. I luckily got out of Helsinki before the promised huge storm started in the afternoon. In Helsinki the storm felled trees and the streets were flooded with water. But by then I was already at home, even though it was pouring much down here too.

Eipä juuri ihmisiä näkynyt. En ole koskaan ymmärtänyt näiden tolppien tarkoitusta. 

Ehkä ne estää autojen parkkeerauksen kyseisellä osuudella.

There were hardly any people to be seen. I have never understood the purpose of these bollards. 

Maybe they prevent cars from parking on that section.

Kesäksi tehtiin terasseja usean kadun varteen ja näin menetettiin muutamia autopaikkoja. 

Kohta kun tulee kylmä ja lunta, ei tuolla istu kukaan, kuten ei sateellakaan.

Terraces were made for the summer along several streets, and thus a few parking spaces were lost.

As soon as it gets cold and snowy, no one sits there, just like when it's raining.

Seurasaari / Open air museum island 3/3 # Kirkko / The Church

 

Karunan vanha kirkko on 1685 valmistunut puukirkko, joka siirrettiin 1912 Helsingin Seurasaaren ulkomuseoon. Se on ulkomuseon vanhin rakennus. Kirkon rakennutti Karunan kartanon omistaja, vapaaherra Arvid Horn af Åminne. 

Karuna’s old church is a wooden church completed in 1685, which was moved to Helsinki’s Seurasaari outdoor museum in 1912. It is the oldest building in the outdoor museum. The church was built by the owner of the Karuna manor, free lord Arvid Horn af Åminne. 

Rakennusmestari Anders Wahlbergin suunnittelema kellotapuli valmistui vuonna 1767.

The belfry designed by master builder Anders Wahlberg was completed in 1767.

Varmasti joskus olisi jalkapuista apua kotonakin, vai...?

Surely sometimes it would be useful to be a foot tree at home as well...?

Seurasaari / Open air museum island 2/3

Perinnetupien ja -aittojen joukossa on myös kartano, jossa asui ns. parempaa väkeä.

Among the traditional huts and sheds there is also a manor where the better people lived.

Kahiluodon kartano 1790. Rakennus siirrettiin Seurasaaren ulkomuseoon 1926. Nykyinen kalustus on peräisin eri tahoilta paitsi keittiön avohyllyköt, jotka ovat alkuperäisiä.

Kahiluoto manor 1790. The building was moved to the Seurasaari open-air museum 1926. The current furniture comes from different sources, except for the open shelves in the kitchen, which are original.

Saarella kun ollaan, siellä on tietenkin pieni uimaranta, jossa poikien piti kahlata.
Of course, there is a small beach on the island, where the boys had to wade.

Vielä yksi kesälomakohde. Olimme Seurasaaressa, joka olikin yllättävän monipuolinen ja mielenkiintoinen kohde. Yleensä olen täällä vain kävellyt ympäriinsä, mutta nyt ostimme museoliput, joilla pääsimme pihoille ja talojen sisälle. Yllätys oli, ettei lapset kyllästyneet lainkaan. Vanhoista Suomi-filmeistä tutut miljööt ja elämäntavat heräsivät täällä henkiin.

One more holiday destination, we took a day trip to Seurasaari open-air museum island of Helsinki. Seurasaari is a surprisingly versatile and interesting destination. Usually I've just walked around here, but today we bought museum tickets to get into the courtyards and inside the houses. Surprise, the kids didn’t get bored at all. The environments and lifestyles familiar from old Finnish films came to life here.

Aitta on rakennettu korkean kannon varaan jotta metsästyssaalis olisi suojassa karhuilta ja ahmoilta. 

The granary is built on a high stump to protect hunting prey from bears and wolverines.

1800-luvun tervavene on 14 metriä pitkä ja siihen mahtui jopa 25 tervatynnyriä. 

Se saattoi painaa lasteineen yli neljä tonnia. 

A 19th-century tar boat is 14 meters long and could hold up to 25 tar barrels. 

It could weigh more than four tons with cargo.
