Lauttasaaressa

Lauttasaari on yksi Helsingin kaupunginosa, lapsuuteni ja nuoruuteni asuinalue. Siellä eteläkärjessä on upea luonnonalue, jossa on kiva kävellä, ja katsella avomerta ja mm. Tallinnan lauttojen ohiajoa.

Lauttasaari (an island) is a district of Helsinki, the area where I lived in my childhood and youth. There in the southern tip is a wonderful natural area where it is nice to walk and watch the open sea and, for example, Tallinn's ferries pass by.

Kauklahdessa (lähellä kotiani) on pieni lampi ja sen ympäri kiertää kilsan pituinen luontopolku.

There is a small pond near my home.

Lammella oli pieni pörröinen koira, joka rakasti uimista (vaikka vesi taisi olla aika kylmää).

There was a small fluffy dog who loved to swim (even though the water was probably quite cold).

Pyöräparkki / Bike park

 

Lippulaivan yhteydessä on suuri pyöräparkki, jossa voi laittaa pyörät kahteen kerrokseen. 

Mutta enpä ole täällä juuri pyöriä nähnyt.

Near the shopping center there is a large bike park, where you can put bikes in two layers.

But I haven't seen many bikes here.

Syksyn tullen uimaranta on saanut uudet rannalla nauttijat. Eipä silti, ei tuolla kukaan voi juuri kävellä saati lekotella, sen verran pökäleitä on hiekalla. Hienoja isoja lintuja, vaikka niitä on liikaa.

With the arrival of autumn, the swimming beach has received new guests. Still, no one can walk there, there are so many lumps on the sand. These are great big birds, even though there are too many of them. Well, they're about to fly south.

Sibelius monumentti

 

Toinen turistikohde oli Sibelius monumentti Töölössä. Tänne ei nyt juuri tule mentyä varttavasten paitsi näin "turistina" ja sen verran harvoin kun käy, niin tulee sitten katsottua tätä putkimonumenttia uusin silmin.

The second tourist destination was the Sibelius monument in Töölö. You don't go here on the spur of the moment and rarely as you go here, then you always look at this pipe monument with new eyes. 

Sibelius-monumentin tekijä on Eila Hiltunen ja se paljastettiin 7. 9. 1967. 

 Teoksen materiaali on haponkestävä teräs ja sen mitat ovat: korkeus 8,5 m; pituus 10,5 m ja syvyys 6,5 m; putkia siinä on yli 600 kpl ja teos painaa 24 tonnia.

The author of the Sibelius monument is Eila Hiltunen and it was unveiled on September 7, 1967.

The material of the work is acid-resistant steel and its dimensions are: height 8.5 m, length 10.5 m and depth 6.5 m; there are more than 600 pipes and the piece weighs 24 tons.

Temppeliaukion kirkko / Rock church

Tehtiin turistikierros Helsingissä, kun Virve ja pojat olivat lomalla. Siitä on todella vuosia, kun viimeksi olin Temppeliaukion kirkossa. Nyt taustalla soi hiljainen musiikki, oli mahtava kokemus.

A tourist tour in Helsinki while Virve and the boys were on holiday. It's really been years since I last visited in this church. Now quiet music was playing in the background, it was a great experience.

Syyskuussa 1932 julistettiin ensimmäinen avoin arkkitehtuuri­kilpailu. Vuoden 1936 toukokuussa julistettiin toinen avoin kilpailu. Louhinta aloitettiin marraskuussa 1939, mutta talvisota keskeytti työn jo kolmen päivän kuluttua  Kolmas avoin arkkitehtuurikilpailu julistettiin pidettäväksi 1960–1961, jossa voittajaksi selviytyivät veljekset Timo Suomalainen ja Tuomo Suomalainen. 

Kirkko vihittiin käyttöön 28. syyskuuta 1969. 

Kirkko on louhittu kallion sisään. Kaikkiaan salissa saa samanaikaisesti olla enintään 940 henkeä

In September 1932, the first open architecture competition was announced. In May 1936, asecond open competition was announced. Excavation began in November 1939, but the winter war stopped the work after only three days In 1961 was third architectural competition, won by Timo Suomalainen and Tuomo Suomalainen. The church  was completed in September 1969. 

The church has been mined to the rock. A total of 940 people can be in the hall at the same time.

Kupoli on salissa ainoa matemaattinen muoto. Kupoliin on uponnut 22 kilometriä ohutta kuparinauhaa. Akustiikan kannalta nauhojen väliin on jätetty tuskin silmin havaittava tyhjä tila. 

The round dome on the roof has 22 kilometers of thin copper strip.

Ikkuna-alueella on kupolia kannattelemassa 180 eri pituista säteittäispalkkia.

There are 180 radial beams of different lengths supporting the dome in the window area. 

Kiivettiin kallion päälle, ja siellä näkyi vain lasinen kupoli kivimuurin ympäröimänä.

We climbed on top of the rock, and there we could see only a glass dome surrounded by a stone wall.
