Riihimäki, my love 1

 

Kun muutin Riihimäelle maaliskuun puolessa välin, en tiennyt että rakastuisin tähän pikkukaupunkiin. Silloin laskin päiviä, jolloin oli muutettava kotoa pois putkiremontin alta. Nyt lasken päiviä, jolloin on jätettävä tämä kaupunki ja palattava kotiin Espooseen. Kuva on vesitornista otettu.

When I moved to Riihimäki in the middle of March, I didn't know that I would fall in love with this small town. Then I counted the days when I had to move out of the house under the plumbing repair. Now I'm counting the days until I have to leave this city and return home to Espoo. The landscape photo is taken from the water tower.

Kävelyn jälkeen on kiva istua jossain terassilla kahvilla.

After a walk, it's nice to sit somewhere on the terrace with a coffee.

Täällä on pienen keskustan lisäksi paljon puita ja puistoja. 

Kaikki on lähellä kävelymatkan päässä, autoa ei tarvi lainkaan, ja ihmiset ovat ystävällisiä.

In addition to a small downtown, there are many trees and parks here.

Everything is within walking distance, you don't need a car at all, and the people are friendly.

There is a funny little statue with two heads at one of the roundabouts.

Niin, minulla on enää 13 (14) päivää jäljellä nauttia täälläolosta.

Yes, I only have 13 (14) days left to enjoy being here.

Riihimäen keskuskirkko / Riihimäki central church

 

Riihimäen kirkko valmistui vuonna 1905 ja sitä on laajennettu vuonna 1927. 

Kirkossa on 630 istumapaikkaa.  Lue enemmän

The church was completed in 1905 and was expanded in 1927. The church has 630 seats.

Kirkko sijaitsee mäellä, ja tässä on yhdet portaat sinne.

The church is located on a hill, and here is one of the steps to get there.

The central church was built with funds collected voluntarily from people living in Riihimäki and with the support of the National Railway Board. The church was completed in 1905.

The church’s first 11-stop organ was completed in 1906. The present 26-stop organ dates from 1978. The choir recess with its columns forms a “Heaven’s gate” theme. The wooden crucifix on the altar wall is the work of artist Hannes Autere.

Kirsikankukkia ja romuauto / Cherry blossoms and a scrap car

 

Vihdoinkin meille tuli lämpö, tälle viikolle luvattu jopa 25 °C. Kirsikkapuut kukkii.

We finally got some heat, up to 25 °C was promised for this week. The cherry trees are blooming.

Naaåurikaupungissa Hyvinkäällä on paikka nimeltä Sveitsi. Siellä on hotelli ja kylpylä ym. toimintaa kuin myös talvella laskettelukeskus. Pitihän siellä poiketa, kun tytär asuu Sveitsissä. On hauska yhteensattuma.

In a neighboring city (Hyvinkää) there is a place called Sveitsi (Switzerland). There is a hotel and a spa and other activities as well as a skiing center in the winter. I had to drop by there as my daughter lives in Switzerland (Sveitsi in Finnish), it's a funny coincidence.

Totta kai minun piti kavuta tuonne ylös tosi huonokuntoista tietä pitkin.

Of course I had to climb up a really bad road.

Huipulla odotti odottamaton näky, romuauto.

Nostalgiaa

 

Kun kiertelen autolla maaseutua Riihimäen ympäristössä, 

niin kerran löysin aivan ihanan nostalgisen Mommilan Kyläpuodin.

When I drive around the countryside around Riihimäki.

 so I found one time the absolutely wonderful nostalgic Mommila Village Store. 

En olisi uskonut mitä kaikkea sain nähdä aivan tavallisen keltaisen pienen talon sisällä.

I wouldn't have believed what I could see inside a very ordinary little yellow house.

Siellä oli kahvio ja uskomattomat kahvilapöytätilat vanhaan malliin.

There was a cafe and incredibly lovely cafe table facilities in the old fashion.

Jokainen seinä ja nurkka oli täynnä vanhoja esineitä, julisteita ja kylttejä. 

Every wall and corner was filled with old objects, posters and signs.

Siellä oli museokauppa entisajan tyyliin sisustettuna. 

Hyllyt notkui vanhoja tavaroita (joita ei tietenkään voinut ostaa eikä edes saanut koskea)

There was a museum shop decorated in the style of the olden times.

 The shelves were full of old stuff (which, of course, you couldn't buy or even touch)

Täällä kului aikaa, kun suuri osa esineistä oli tuttua lapsuudesta ja niitä piti ihastella. 

Voi sitä nostalgian tunnetta.

Time passed here when most of the objects were familiar from childhood and had to be admired.

Oh, the feeling of nostalgia.

Lopuksi nautin vanhan ajan maukasta lihapiirakkaa kahvin kera.

Finally, I enjoyed a tasty old-timey meat pie with coffee.

Suolla / In the swamp

 

Paikallinen ystäväni vei minut lenkkipolulle suolle, Riihimäen laitamille.

Oli ihana kokemus, ensin metsää pitkin, joka oli kuin sadusta, sitten tuli suo, pitkospuut ja suolammet.

My local friend took me on a jogging path to the swamp, on the outskirts of Riihimäki.

It was a wonderful experience, first through the forest, which was like a fairy tale,

then there was a swamp, long trees and swamp ponds.

Ilmat on viilenneet, eli on melkein kylmä (+7 °C). Mutta on vain puettava enemmän vaatetta.

The weather has cooled, so it's almost cold (+7 °C). But you just have to wear more clothes.

Tämä ei ole enää suolla, vaan olemme lähellä olevalla vesikuopalla.

This is no longer in the swamp, but we are at a nearby water hole.
