Suomenlinnan kirkko valmistui vuonna 1854 arkkitehti Konstantin Tonin suunnitelmien mukaan. Se oli alun perin ortodoksinen Viaporin venäläisen varuskunnan kirkko, pyhitetty Pyhän Aleksanteri Nevalaisen muistolle. Se muutettiin luterilaiseksi Suomen itsenäistyttyä, koska nuoren tasavallan aikana ei katsottu olevan enää sopivaa, että kaupunkiin mereltä päin tulevia tervehtisi ensimmäisenä venäläistyylinen kirkko.

Suomenlinna church was completed in 1854. It was originally an Orthodox church of the Russian garrison in Viapori. It was changed to Lutheran after Finland became independent, because during the young republic it was no longer considered appropriate that those coming to the city from the sea would be greeted first by a Russian-style church.

Suomenlinnassa on Merisotakoulu, ja iloinen iltalomalla oleva meripoika suostui kuvaan.

There is a Naval Academy in Suomenlinna, and a happy sailor on an evening vacation agreed to the photo.

Suomenlinnaan / To the Suomenlinna -1

Viime viikolla teimme Soukan Kamerakerhon kanssa retken Suomenlinnaan. Ensin keskustan läpi Kauppatorille. Kävely Hesassa oli pitkästä aikaa mielenkiintoista.

Last week we took a trip to Suomenlinna with the Souka Camera Club. First through the center to the Market Square. A walk trough Helsinki was interesting for a long time.

Manta lähti korjaukseen, jäljellä on vain perustus ja kuiva suihkulähde.

The popular statue "Manta" is under repair, only the foundation and dry fountain remain.

Helsinki jää taakse, matka kestää jotain 10-15 min.

Helsinki is left behind, the journey takes about 10-15 minutes.

Kirsikan kukkia edelleen / Cherry blossoms again

 

On nämä kirsikan kukat niin ihania, ja kun ne vielä kukkii, niin niin niitä ei voi olla kuvaamatta. 

Ja näitä kun löytyy sieltä täältä.

Cherry blossoms are so lovely, and when they're still blooming, you can't help but take pictures of them.

And these can be found everywhere.

Uimaranta on otettu jo käyttöön. Sää on mitä helteisin.

The swimming beach is already in use.

Suomen Cha-cha-cha tuli toiseksi. Vaikka en yleensä enää katsele Euroviisuja, niin nyt piti valvoa ja katsoa pisteiden annot. Oli jännittävä loppu.

Finland's Cha-cha-cha came second. Although I usually don't watch Eurovision any more, now I had to monitor and watch the points. It was an exciting ending.

Euroviisut / Eurovision

Käärijän bolero Assan kivimiehillä.

Tomorrow Saturday is the European song contest, Eurovision. Our show is Käärijä's Cha, cha, cha. 

And it's a pre-favourite.. That's why every place has a performer's costume or its color, 

even the stonemen of the train station got it.

Suomi menee täysin sekaisin, jos me voitetaan. Ja kun vielä on MM Lätkäkin samaan aikaan.

Finland will go completely crazy if we win. 

And there is also the Ice Hockey World Cup at the same time.

Ei ole ihan minun makuun tämä kappale, mutta sillä ei ole merkitystä.

I don't really like this song, but that doesn't matter.

Kukkia sun muuta / Flowers and landscapes

Kivenlahdessa on yksi seinänvierus, jossa magnolia kukkii.

In Kivenlahti, there is one side of the wall where the magnolia is blooming.

On ollut muutama hellepäivä ja kesä on jo ihan ovella, vihreys valtaa alaa.

It's been a few hot days and summer is just around the corner, the green is taking over the area.

Kirsikankukat / Cherry blossoms

Kirsikka kukkii jälleen Kivenlahdessa. On tämä vaan niin kaunista ja keväistä.

Cherry blossoms again in Kivenlahti. This is just so beautiful and springy.

 

Punainen taivas / Red sky

Parvekkeelta näin auringonlaskun aiheuttaman upean punaisen pilven.

From my balcony I could see a spectacular red cloud caused by the sunset.

 

Erilainen vappuaatto / Different mayday even

Oli hieman erilainen vappuaatto kuin tavallisesti. Yleensä en lähde aattona juhlimaan, mutta eilen tehtiin poikkeus ystäviemme kanssa, ja olimme kirkossa. Jumalanpalveluksen jätimme väliin, sensijaan illansuussa menimme kakkukahville (oli myös kalakeittoa). Paljon oli lapsiperheitä. Myöhemmin siellä soitettiin teknomusiikkia, jonka tahdissa oli myös mahdollisuus tanssia. Se musiikki ei todellakaan ollut minun makuuni, mutta lapset hyppivät ja tanssivat, samoin kuin jotkut aikuisetkin ja kaikilla näytti olevan hauskaa. Enpä ole ennen kuullut, että kirkossa olisi jytätanssit. Mutta aika menee eteenpäin, ja tulee uudet jutut.

It was a slightly different May Day than usual. Usually, I don't go to parties on the eve, but yesterday we made an exception with my friends, and we went to the church. We were not at the church service but we later went for cake coffee (there was also fish soup). There were many families with children. Later, techno music was played, to the rhythm of which there was an opportunity to dance. The music wasn't really to my taste, but the kids were jumping and dancing, as were many of the adults too and everyone seemed to be having fun. We watched the hustle and bustle of our time and then went away. I've never heard of dancing in church because it's not our custom in Finland. But, I think, it's the new time.
