Lämpö, vesi ja tuuli / Heat, water and wind

 

Rankkasateen jälkeen on ollut kaksi päivää hellettä (23-25 °C, just sopiva määrä lämpöä). 

Mutta loppuviikosta on taas ennustettu viileämpää säätä ja kovaa myrskyä.

After the heavy rains, there have been two warm days (23–25 °C, just the appropriate amount of heat).

But for the rest of the week, cooler weather and a strong storm are predicted again.

Merenrannalla, kallioilla, on kiva olla helteellä. Tuuli viilentää.

It's nice to be on the seashore, on the rocks. The wind is cooling.

Uusi pieni järvi / A new little lake

Meillä oli aamuyöstä ja aamulla todella kova rankkasade. Tässä risteyksessä on aina ollut sateen jälkeen iso lammikko, mutta nyt pöljät keksivät ottaa kaikki viemärikannet pois ja tukkivat reiät. Eli vesi ei valu mihinkään. Kaiketi nostavat asfalttia ja laittavat uudet viemärit. - mutta milloin ja kuinka monen sateen jälkeen.

We had a really heavy rain overnight and this morning. There has always been a big puddle at this intersection after it rains, but now those rascals figured out to take all the drain covers off and plug the holes. So the water won't drain anywhere. Maybe they'll lift the asphalt and put new drains in. - but when and how much rain will it rain.

Kaunis heijastus, minkä ei pitäisi näkyä tässä vaan ainoastaan meren puolella.

Riihimäellä

 

Olin kaksi päivää Riihimäellä. Muistelemassa evakkoaikaani vuosi sitten. Sattui vaan olemaan tosi kylmä toinen päivä, 13 °C, ja liian vähän vaatteita mukana. Nyt on 15-18 °C, ja välillä satelee. Onhan tämä hieman viileetä, mutta mieluummin näin kuin yli 30 °C lämmöt, tai jopa 40 °C. En kestäisi.

I was in Riihimäki for two days. Reminiscing about my time in evacuation a year ago. It just happened to be really cold the second day, 13 °C, and I had too few clothes with me. Now it's 15-18 °C and it rains sometimes. In the end, this is a bit cool, but it's better than heat over 30°C. I wouldn't be able to stand it.

These two houses have had their facades renovated. They are really beautiful now.

Kuusisaari

 

Kävin pitkästä aikaa katsomassa Kuusisaaren huvilaa (1892). Se on Espoossa Länsiväylän varrella, Espoon ja Helsingin rajalla, meren rannalla. Huvila näkyy, kun ajaa Länsiväylää pitkin, mutta sinne on hankala päästä. Parkkipaikka on väylän toisella puolen ja on käveltävä vähän matkaa. Ensi kerralla ajan metrolla lähimmälle asemalle ja kävelen, jolloin ei tarvitse palata auton luo, vaan voi kävellä rantaraittia puoleen jos toiseen. Nyt kun kulkee metrolla meren alla, niin tätä kaunista huvilaa ei enää näe, se on sääli.

It’s been a long time since I last visited the Kuusisaari villa (1892). It is located in Espoo by the sea, next to the Länsiväylä road, on the border between Espoo and Helsinki. You can see the villa when driving along the Länsiväylä, but it’s difficult to get there. The parking area is on the other side of the road and you have to walk a little. Next time I’ll take the metro to the nearest station and walk, so I don’t have to get back to the car, but I can walk along the coastal path in one direction or the other. Now that the metro is going under the sea, you won’t see this beautiful villa anymore, which is a shame.

Alue on suosittu ulkoilupaikka, ja se on rantaraitin varrella ts. rantaraitti kulkee Helsingistä Espooseen, Kivenlahteen asti, mikä on melkein raitin viiminen etappi. Nyt kiertelin alueen takaosaa ja näin nämä vanhat maatalousrakennukset.

The area is a popular outdoor recreation area, and it is located along the coastal path, which means that the coastal path runs from Helsinki to Espoo all the way to Kivenlahti, which is almost the last part of the path. Now I walked around the back of the area and saw these old agricultural buildings.

Kauppaneuvos Nicolas Sinebrychoff rakennutti palstalleen upean huvilapalatsin maatiloineen. Vuonna 1892 valmistuneen päärakennuksen suunnitteli Nicolaksen hyvä ystävä, vapaaherra ja arkkitehti Karl August Wrede, joka oli ottanut talon arkkitehtuuriin vaikutteita italialaisista renessanssihuviloista.

Huvila oli aikoinaan pieni maatila talousrakennuksineen, joista useimmat ovat säilyneet. Maatilalla oli työntekijöiden asuntoja, navettoja, riihejä ja talleja. Huvilalla oli kasvihuone, jossa kasvatettiin kukkia. Osa rakennuksista, kuten höyrylaivalle rakennettu jykevä laituri uimahuoneineen jäi Länsiväylän alle.
Huvilan omistajat saapuivat paikalle huvipurrella ja ylellisillä hevosvaunuilla.

The councilor of commerce, Nicolas Sinebrychoff, had a magnificent villa palace and farmstead built on his plot. The main building, completed in 1892, was designed by Nicolas’s good friend, baron and architect Karl August Wrede, who had taken inspiration from Italian Renaissance villas for the architecture of the house. 

The villa was once a small farm with outbuildings, most of which have survived. The farm had workers’ apartments, barns, sheds and stables. The villa had a greenhouse where flowers were grown. Some of the buildings, such as the sturdy pier built for the steamship with its swimming rooms, remained under the Länsiväylä. 

The owners of the villa arrived on the site on a yacht and in luxurious horse-drawn carriages.

Kivenlahden juhannusjuhla / Midsummer celebration

Nyt on juhannus. Päivä on pisimmällään, kohta päivät lyhenee, mutta onneksi se tapahtuu hitaasti.

We spend Midsummer. The day is at its longest, in the south we have only about 5 hours of night, in the north the sun doesn't set at all. Now the days are about to get shorter, but luckily it's happening slowly.

Kivenlahdessa vietettiin juhannusjuhlaa rannalla. Oli ainoa iso juhla Espoossa (kaupungin järjestämä), joten tänne tuli ihmisiä joka puolelta. Rannalla on ohjelmaa ja musiikkia, mutta siellä en ollut. Joten kuvat on rantaraitilta, kun käveltiin läpi ihmismassojen. Tuli fiilis, että ollaan kuin jossain etelän turistirannalla. Ikinä ei näin paljon ihmisiä ole täällä näkynyt.

A Midsummer celebration was held on the beach in Kivenlahti. It was the only big celebration in Espoo (organized by the city), so people came here from all over. There is a program and music on the beach, but I wasn't there. So the pictures are from the beach path, when we walked through the crowds of people. It felt like we were on a tourist beach somewhere in the south. I've never seen so many people here before.

Päivä oli tosi lämmin ja vielä illalla oli jotain 21 °C.

The day was really warm and in the evening it was still around 21 °C.

Ennen vanhaan suurin osa ihmisistä meni maalle juhannuksena ja kaupunki jäi täysin tyhjäksi. Oli aika metka tunne olla Helsingissä, kun ei näkynyt ristinsieluakaan kaduilla. 

Mutta nykyään enemmän ja enemmän ihmisiä jää kaupunkiin viettämään juhannusta.

In the old days, most people went to the countryside during Midsummer and the city was completely empty. It was quite interesting to be in Helsinki when there was hardly anyone to be seen. 

But nowadays, more and more people are staying in the city to celebrate Midsummer.

Träskanda / Diana-temppeli

 

Kun kävelee puistosta ulos ympäröivään metsään, niin sieltä löytää huvimajan, "Diana-temppelin".

When you walk out of the park into the surrounding forest, you'll find a gazebo, the "Diana temple".

Diana-temppeli on myös 800-luvulta. Se on yksinäisellä paikalla mäen päällä keskellä metsää. Niinpä se on myös otollinen nuorison kokoontumispaikka. Mutta mikä kumma, kun aina pitää myös sotkea ja rikkoa kaikki. Kun asuin aikanaan tämän puiston vieressä yli 30 v sitten, niin silloinkin oli graffitteja, ja kaupunki puhdisti, ja nuoriso taas sotki. Sisäkaton maalaus on suojattu lasilla.

The Temple of Diana also dates back to the 9th century. It is in a secluded spot on a hill in the middle of a forest. So it is also a popular gathering place for young people. But why you always have to mess up and break everything. When I lived next to this park more than 30 years ago, there was graffiti even then, and the city cleaned up, and the youth made a mess etc. The interior ceiling painting is protected by glass.

Nyt on ihan erinäköistä, on runsasta vihreää. Ja mikä parasta, tämä sijaitsee lähellä.

Piparkakkutalo on vanha puurakennus 1800-luvulta, joka toimi aikoinaan asuinrakennuksena. 

Nyt siinä on kahvila.

The Gingerbread House is an old wooden building from the 19th century, which once served as a residential building. Now there is a cafe.

Träskändan kartano (1700-luvulta) on historiallisesti arvokas paikka ja on suojeltu. Rakennus ei ole koskaan ollut museo eikä sinne pääse sisään. Kauan sitten siellä oli vanhainkoti, ja isot salit ym pilkottiin pieniksi huoneiksi. Sitten siellä toimi koululaisten iltapäiväkerho ja muuta sellaista. Nyt se on ollut monta vuotta tyhjillään. Kaupunki etsii vuokralaista, joka kunnostaisi sen ja tekisi sinne jotain kivaa, esim hotellin ja ravintolan. Julkisivu valmistui viime keväänä, ja puistoa on hoidettu koko ajan.

Träskända Manor (from the 18th century) is a historically valuable place and is protected. The building has never been a museum and you cannot enter it. A long time ago it was a home for the elderly, and the large halls etc. were cut into small rooms. Then there was an afternoon club for school children and other such things. It has been empty for many years now. The city is looking for a tenant who would renovate it and do something nice there, for example a hotel and restaurant. The facade was completed last spring, and the park has been maintained all the time.
